- 4 Podcasts from Brother Robertson's website
I took one look at my site and realized that I have been building it for my screen only, which is a common mistake. Just hearing about the podcasts in class (outlined above) made me think about what my site was missing. So I downloaded these four podcasts and did what I could to implement them into my site.
This might have been a very quick process, but my site looks one hundred percent different. It has empty space on each side allowing the vistor to feel that they can relax on my site. You get the feeling that you aren't missing anything because of that free space.
Listening to the podcasts brought me to understand that not only does the site look ugly when you leave at its default, but more importantly, some users will not be able to see everything. The moment this happens your site loses respect and no one will come back.
One of the biggest problems was my navigation. I created my navigation for my screen only. It was larger than 800 pixels wide, which is way too large. So I asked myself the question, what now? I first thought that I could just create another navigation, but I soon realized that that would be too much work, and the goal of this class is to do as little work as possible. So I asked myself, what would be the simplest answer? You want simple? Then just split the navigation into two lines. This takes a mere ten seconds to complete.
